Swatch Snowpark Sölden, Saturday, March 13th 2010

Blue skies, a shaped and shiny Swatch Snowpark, a high riding-level and of course the nightlife of Sölden guaranteed that the fifth Freestyle Feast had enough on offer for everyone, no matter if participant or guest. Around 40 riders gave everything under the judging of the „Airpatrol-guys“ Florian Merten and Alexander Anderer to get a piece of the EUR 1000,- prizemoney, as well as some of the numerous goodies provided by the sponsors Oakley, Nitro and Moreboards. Also, QParks headshaper Christoph Schöpf was just excited by the development of the Feast, as he later comments: „The weather was brilliant and the riders were extremely motivated. They all showed a very high level in all categories and in the end the victories were well-deserved. For the spectators it was just a cool and relaxing come-together in the chillout area at some barbecue and good music!“

The flawless and demanding setup emphasized the extraordingly level of the contest with a three kickers line and a flowing railline consisting of a kinked rail, a rocket rail, a downrail to finally end up in a xxl wallride. Unfortunately, however, exceptionally male riders competed in this first contest, but hopefully some of the girls found their taste at what they saw on Saturday and will take part next year for the Freestyle Feast 6!

And the winners are ...

Only a few riders from neighboring countries found their way into the line-up and so the top of the podium styayed in Austrian hands this year. The winners of freeskiers were Gram Gottfried (AUT) in the category "Freeski Men" and Rangger Dominik (AUT) of the "Freeski rookies“. At the snowboarders, Rene Friedl (AUT) dominated the ranking and Angelo Gastl (AUT) won at the „snowboard rookies“. The result is particularly encouraging for QParks, since after all there was a double success at the snowboarders: Rene Friedel is headshaper in the stanton park in St. Anton at the Arlberg and Jonel Fricke (GER) is headshaper of the Kitzbühel DC Area 43 North and achieved an excellent third place in the "Snowboard Men" category and thus showed that next to his outstanding work as headshaper he also found enough time to train!

Comments...

René commented on his victory: "I am really thrilled and was surprised when I finally was appointed the winner of the snowboard contest! I think my FS 5 Nose at the starting kicker was acclaimed by the judges. The park was amazing and the 3 Series kicker line is a substantial improvement to last year when I was a shaper in Soelden. Also the new wallride is really massive! The Slopestyle contest appealed to me extremely well, I hope the format will be maintained for next year. "

Freeski winner Gottfried "Goffi" Gram also spent a memorable day in the Swatch Snowpark Sölden: "The contest was just as I would imagine a contest; enough training and then a cozy jamsession, which simply made me step on the gas even further! For me this was the first but surely not the last participation in the Freestyle Feast! The park is super cool and the 3 kicker line is my absolute favorite - funny and just right for a contest, not too small not too big - just right, the railsetup likewise! This was a decisive factor that ultimately everything has gone exactly according to my ideas! On the first kicker a ‚Cork 900’, then at the second one a ‚Rightside 720 reverse tailgrab’ and at the end another ‚Leftside 720 High Mute’!"

Also the young shooting star Dominik (11 years, Ischgl) is overjoyed by his victory: "The contest was extremely fun and it was super organized! I think my tricks [Cork 7 - Double-Nose; Superman-Frontflip; 57-720] really worked out well!" After his 1st Place at the recent Kirschbaum Battle in the stanton park in St. Anton at the Arlberg, the 1st place at the Freestyle Feast is another highlight of his short career. Just at the moment he is in St. Anton for the shooting of the movie The Chalet Girl by director Phil Trail, in which he can soon be seen on screen with a freestyle scene!

The Feast ...

Inspired by the driving beats of DJ Masstrixx's and MC Lix’s  virtuos accompaniment, the motivation of the riders seemed literally to explode, which was apparent in the latest shoot-your-ride "goodies-for-Trix Session". After only 10 minutes (!)all the goodies were already taken and then the scene went on with the coronation of the winners in the chillarea. In the evening everyone cheered on the successful contest and after the clashing cold in the park, the riders and guests heated themselves up again at Sölden’s nightlife!Text.....
