The Swatch Snowpark Sölden has seen crowds of motivated riders last winter with the snowboard elite and several media crews paying their tributes. Not only events as the Freestyle Feast in March lured the scene to Sölden, but the park itself with its special obstacles attracted pros, filmers and photographers to collect stunning footage behind the scenery of the Ötztaler Alps.

During the wholly successful last season „the new Oakley box and the medium rail - line were favoured by the riders. The park enlargement was appreciated and the third big kicker was the blast of the winter.“, park designer Rudi Whylidal remembers.

In April eventually, the shape crew made the most of the slowly fading snow and still built another special obstacle: the huge Oakley media-kicker at the glacier! Endless seemed the flock of international film crews who followed the roar of the monster kicker: however, shredding it was only for few chosen ones but not the public which was confined to watching the spectacle.

But soon the season is on again and the Swatch Snowpark Sölden will open its lines for all of you freestyle folks, consisting of a well balanced beginner-, medium- and pro offer, as well as kickers between 4 and 15 meters (13 – 50 ft). The number of rails, boxes and various other features will be upgraded even further this year: besides the two new XL butterflat boxes, also an A-frame box, a 9m double kinked box and a 9m butterbox rollercoaster will be integrated in the existing park design. Setup variety, high chill factor and a training ground for new tricks are the keywords that best describe the park – ‘one of a kind”.

Another special treat enjoying great popularity again this year will definitely be the “Swatch Shoot my ride” video wall which was installed two years ago. It gives riders the chance to watch and analyze their tricks on a big screen at the bottom of the park, just perfect for improving your skills!

Rudi’s this year’s forecast also sounds promising: “There will be more and better snow this season and I’ll come up with some surprises concerning the set-up”. Only one thing left to do now: go check it out!
