It’s always sad to announce it, but there’s no sense in beating around the bush: Folks, the time has come and our beloved Swatch Snowpark Sölden is closing its gates this weekend on Sunday! Until then the full setup will stand at the ready for you just to be destroyed for a last session this winter! Park chief Rudy Wyhlidal has been busy all day long with shootings on the Oakley kicker on the glacier, nevertheless he took the time for a very personal review on the season.
Rudy, when looking back on the season of 2009/2010, what was the most remarkable for you snowpark-wise?
Well, It was a long and cold winter, but we had 7 snowcannons to fire against the lack of snow. What was clearly striking out this winter for sure was the Freestyle Feast. This winter it was for the first time a slopestyle contest and so freestyle in Sölden has been pushed to higher levels!
How would you compare this winter to the last one?
Last year we had too much snow to handle, this year far too less. Too much is definitely better! However, headshaper Christoph “Sepplar” Schöpf was helping a lot!
What sucked in this winter?
As I said, the changing temperatures and the few snowfall were really backbreaking.
What did you get out for yourself?
Many wetted underpants with perspiration from the hard shaping work.
Besides the Freestyle Feast, what were your highlights of this season?
One of the highlights was for sure the photokicker . But thinking back, the 70 centimeters of fresh snow in December (unfortunately the one and only time this year) were awesome. Parkwise, the pro line was outstanding with the extension of the third prokicker and the Oakley box.
Your personal message to the Sölden community…
Thanks for a brilliant season guys and I hope you learned a lot – see you next year!
